Six months ago, at an event in South San Francisco, I spoke with Nicholas Larus-Stone, President and Founder of Bits in Bio, about how much I missed my community in the Bay Area. He said - why not help organize a tech-bio event in San Diego so that you can build a new community?Last week, I had the opportunity to do just that! What an absolute joy it was to host the Bits in Bio Showcase along with Robert Matthews, at Aquillius— an inspiring evening all around!
With a packed room, overflow seating, great food and an abundance of energy that went for hours overtime, the San Diego Tech + Bio community came together to celebrate innovation and entrepreneurship. The spotlight was on standout founders and teams: Maya Gosztyla, PhD (BrainStorm Therapeutics, Inc.), Courtney Young (MyoGene Bio), Salah Mahmoudi (ReneuBio Inc), Pilgrim Jackson (Yatiri Bio Inc.), Assaf M. (Voyant Bio), Sheena McGowan, PhD (Scudo Biosciences), Carter Palmer (Third Element Bio), the team from Nanome, and Lucas Schaus, PhD (ALP AI). Their pitches highlighted exactly why San Diego continues to be a thriving hub for innovation.
A special thanks to our judges — MyPhuong Le, PhD , Dave Messina, Daniel B. Dadon, Ph.D., and Derrick Miyao — for leading sharp, thought-provoking discussions. Congratulations to Scudo Biosciences, MyoGene Bio and BrainStorm Therapeutics, Inc. for clinching the top three spots! Bits in Bio is a worldwide network that brings together scientists, entrepreneurs and engineers who are driven to be the change makers at the intersection of AI + bio.
